Wizard Clothes
sure it's been pondered over millions of times already, but I'm doing it once more!
Drawing some recent canon art has given me a lot of thoughts and re-thoughts on clothes, fashion and style in the HP Wizarding World.
I consulted the

I guess if you want wizards to wear muggle-like clothing that is unlike (contemporary) muggle dress you could go with historical dress styles, like they could wear individual hoses rather than trousers, or maybe they wear their trousers knee-length and long socks, or some tunic like things, like in traditional peasants clothing?

I LOVE the idea of knee-length trousers and long socks! I need to incorporate that in my wizard wear!

The Weasley jumper could theoretically be worn over a set of robes; but, as I mentioned above, trousers do seem to be a part of wizard wear. I think though, that the trousers mightn't be like brandname Gap cargos or anything; they'd be somehow un-Muggleish (ie buttons instead of zips, or scalloped hems on men's trousers, or endless pockets or something) and made by wizards, for wizards. :D

Also, I think that with the influence of mugleborns through the ages, loads of muggle style clothes would have found their way into the wardrobes of wizarding families.

1) Harry wasn't exactly worldy or well-traveled at 11; even less so than your normal 11-year old. How many styles and fashions that he sees on people - Muggle and wizard alike - would he find odd? Quite a lot, I suppose; but that's my own personal interpretation.
2) Vernon noticing, in the beginning of PS, a variety of people in public areas wearing brightly coloured robes and cloaks. He and the other Muggles tried mostly to ignore their presense. Which I think, is a running theme in these books - strange happenings of wizards seem to be generally ignored by Muggles, including their strange dress.
*ponder ponder!* Sorry if I'm no good at this meta stuff - it's generally why I try to stay away from it and leave it to, like, smart people.
