HELP.
ETA FINAL: The group has been
restored!! All it took was a day's worth of really fabulous determined people not letting Facebook get away with their foolishness. My goodness. Thanks, all of you.
The official racebending.com Facebook group was removed by Facebook. In their letter they say:The group “People Against Racebending: Protest of the Cast of The Last Airbender Movie” has been removed because it violated our Terms of Use. Among other things, groups that are hateful, threatening, or obscene are not allowed. We also take down groups that attack an individual or group, or advertise a product or service.
Wow. Just. Really, Facebook? Really? So one of my fellow racebending.com peeps
wrote back immediately - essentially saying:Facebook’s FAQ writes that “Any content that is obscene, violent, malicious or otherwise offensive will be removed.” We have no idea as to how the entirety of our Facebook group could be considered to meet this criteria, particularly given the precedence of similar discrimination-in-movies protest groups on Facebook.
You know, after
Zazzle tried to shut down our racebending.com store - and it was Viacom who asked Zazzle to bring the store back under the Fair Use for protest clause - this is just one more kick in the teeth.
At the moment, we're still waiting on a response from Facebook.
Anyone had previous experience with Facebook when it came to this sort of situation? Any advice, on how to communicate with Facebook, or how to get the group restored, dearest knowledgable flist?
