Oh Hell, elderly nanny troubles
Today was spent at my sisters with her 5 kids my mum and Dad and my Nan, my nan is 90/odd and very senile, mad as a box of frogs some might say. She lost my grandpop 3 years ago and has fallen to bits since then, but since he has not been about to be her live in help ( and there for her to blame for all sorts of things) it has become apparent that she has been mad for a long time, Gramps just covered her.
She is very difficult, miserable and grumpy, moans about everything regardless of whether what she is moaning about is accurate or not, but is that just old people?
Anyway, she is my nan and love her or loathe her she is my family. So today was strained, I have lots of issues with my mum and dad that im not going into here but its enough to say that I feel they are selfish people who value friends and outsiders opinions far more than family and family ties. We had a nice dinner at my sisters, things are strained because of my folks but with all the kids there is always one child running about to take our minds off not having anything to say to one another. Nan goes to the loo and is gone for a while, My dad looking concerned barks to me to go see if she is ok, I get upstairs and the smell hits me first. I find my nan in the (quite small and very nooky/cranny) bathroom half naked with dihoreah everywhere, on the carpet, in the sink (by all the kiddies toothbrushes) up the walls and on the door, I call my mum and sister and we sort her out, I lift her into the bath and wash her and set too cleaning everything, twice, with bleach and detox.
Nan is very upset and embarrassed so doesn't want to go back into the lounge, My mum and dad take her home and that is that, they go off to a BBQ - Nan on her own in her bungalow.
My Problem is that I dont think she should be alone, I know this isnt the first time this has happened, this is not just "leaving it too late" if it was you'd expect a cacky pair of pants not a shit fest. This is not food related, we all ate the same meal we are all fine. This can only be poor hygiene (she never washes her hands),a bug, or a symptom of a bigger problem the big C might spring to mind.
In anycase I really dont think she should be alone, I'm cross with my folks for taking her home and then going out, they should stay with her or have her stay with them. I would have her here but I must put Sean first, he cant get a bug like this, If it happens again in the night how will she cope, she had no idea what to do. She was trying to wash herself and poo was just running down her leg onto the floor, She was too embarrassed to call for help, so in the middle of the night she wouldn't call would she.
This is such a tricky situation, Put her in a home and doom her to death, leave her in her house and let her slowly get iller and iller till she has to go into hospital where she will be doomed to death. The only real option is to have her move into my mum and dads, Mum has announced that this is not an option as her sanity is at risk- I think that is appalling and told her so. I just dont know, It was so distressing to see her so uncapable and in such a undignified state.
