First of all, I have a LOT to say, and I really hope I don't leave out anything significant. But more importantly, I hope I explain everything well enough and don't over-explain. Anyway, here we go.
I wouldn't even think of trying to diagnose this remotely, but I might be able to find time to take a look at it, depending on where you live and how much time I can yank from being busy.
You know, it's such a strange Catch-22.gloriajnNovember 9 2008, 01:07:40 UTC
I wanted to respond to your reply to my post about not having Internet access sooner rather than later. But I couldn't because I don't have Internet access at home! :) I had hoped that I could at least reply at work, but then, work got busier than usual this week. Anyway...
I'm going to email you and give you my cell phone number. That way, at least we could talk about the possibility of you looking at it, hopefully in some time in the next week.
several possible reasons...the most likely of which is that they turned on one of the security options which requires you to set your connection to match.
A different router means several things could have changed.
Security... they may have set your landlady up to get through their security and yours is not set up. With permission from the owner, you might want to power cycle the router and see if you can connect then, or check her computer to see how she's set up. Ask her if they asked her for a password or anything. They also may have programmed it only to accept her MAC address and no one else. Mostly, unless you can access the router setup, there's a lot you can't know. If you can access the landlady's computer, maybe you can see the setup. If you have physical access, there might be a direct ethernet port on back to look into it as well. Maybe a power-cycle is all it needs?
801.11a, b and g run differently, so you may not be connecting to the right one. New Linksys routers run more bands than the old ones.
Just some ideas. I'd troubleshoot if I could get there.
