[character]: Eclipse
[character history / background]: Eclipse is well known for his exceptional skill and cruelty, as demonstrated by his part in the Hangma War, a holy war between demons and clerics a century before the story takes place. He served beneath Demon Lord Raenef the Fourth and was given the task of finding the Fifth Demon Lord Raenef after the Fourth unexpectedly passed away. Eclipse found the Fifth Demon Lord in a small town Pulhel. There, he met Raenef as a homeless boy living as a thief, and tested Raenef's lordship by watching as a guard tried and failed at killing him. He then took Raenef back to the castle the new Demon Lord resides in and is charged with training him in the ways of dark magic and ruling as a Demon Lord.
His task is certainly not made easy by the new Raenef, as the boy is young and impressionable, still suited with the beliefs and ideals of a human. Eclipse struggles to get him in the mind set that a Demon Lord is meant to reign in terror over everyone beneath him and constantly has to remind Raenef not to treat him as an equal. Considering his high status, several other demon lords want Eclipse to serve them and yet, despite Raenef's inexperience and the trouble he causes him, Eclipse remains faithful to his master and refuses to serve any one else. Even with the stress and hassle of dealing with Raenef's shenanigans, Eclipse feels very strongly for him and goes to immeasurable lengths to ensure his safety at all times.
[character abilities]: Eclipse has highly furnished skill in dark magic, which includes the ability to manifest his energy into several different attacks. He also excersises control over the four elements of fire, water, earth and wind. He shows other powers, such as telepathy, the ability to create shields, and teleportation.
[character personality]: In general, Eclipse is an all-business, all the time person. He is very serious about his job and is quick to anger when Raenef V slacks off or takes it lightly. He has little to no regard for humans, especially the clerics, and has no remorse when killing them, which is something he tries to teach Raenef to understand. Demons are higher than humans, and demon lords are higher than all, which means that Raenef should instill terror and destruction upon them all. Eclipse was hell-bent on demons being cruel creatures with no regard towards another's life.
However, over the course of the story, Eclipse's mindset begins to change as he watches the compassion in his new master's heart and considers the developing emotions within himself. Raenef, having been raised with the morals of a human, refuses to kill both a knight and a cleric that attempted to kill him and instead allows them to live in the castle with him and befriends them. Eclipse was extremely adverse to this but couldn't go against the will of his master and eventually started warming up to the two guests and tolerates their presence, even relies on them when Raenef gets into trouble. He doesn't quite treat them as friends, as he still looks down on them, but he doesn't kill them immediately and lets them live peacefully. Through this, he learns tolerance of the "lower" species and even starts to value them, somewhat.
Being surrounded by Raenef's aloofness and cheeriness also helps soften the hard corners of Eclipse's heart. He finds himself smiling and laughing, a feat which other demons watch with shock and horror as he has never done so before. He treats Raenef with kindness and concern, going out of his way to make sure his master is happy. Demons generally live only for themselves and cherish their own lives above all else in the world, even their own heirs. But as Eclipse goes through various events and battles with Raenef, he sacrifices his own body to protect his master, which is something he never would have done before. Meruhesae tells Eclipse that the greatest gift a servant can give his master is trust, and that contemplating one's existence every once in awhile isn't such a bad thing. Eclipse dwells on this thoroughly, not sure if demons can even feel trust, but then decides that he trusts in Lord Raenef and has faith in him, and devotes his entire existence to Raenef from then on out. He learns what it is to love, though he is not consciously aware of this fact.
[point in timeline you're picking your character from]: Umm, the books don't really have labeled chapters, so I'll be taking him from page 124 in book 4, just as he blocks Lord Krayon's third assault on him and Raenef.

Magic Shield, Circle Nine!
[A dark circle shows in the feed, the faint image of a man on his knees in the center. When he realizes nothing has struck him, his eyes open in surprise and he looks around in shock as he finds himself in some sort of different realm, with bright lights and strange buildings...? The shield fades away]
Lord Raenef! [He rushes to his feet] Lord Rae- hrrk!
[A hand clutched across his torso, you can see his clothes are torn and he's bleeding. He stumbles, but lifts his head and calls out again in desperation.]
Lord Raenef! Where are you?! Krayon, what have you done?! [And then there is rage in his voice] Where have you sent me?! [A cough of pain and he stumbles forward]
Lord Raenef...!

[third person / log sample]: Eclipse had always been a proud demon - he fought with immeasurable strength and ferocity, held his own against legions of God's creatures, and was highly regarded in the demon world as a figure of power and elegance. He handled every situation with grace and vigor, ensuring the best possible outcome. He always gained what was needed, by any means necessary and with the appropriate force applied. Nothing could stand in his way.
Yet he found himself at a loss in his current situation. Lord Krayon had appeared so suddenly, and whisked Lord Raenef and the others into the dream dimension without so much as a warning. A test to if he is worthy of my services? Eclipse scoffed, his brows in the same furrowed state they had been since Krayon's arrival. Raenef...Lord Raenef was his master, regardless of his current skill level or intelligence. He could not and would not see himself with any other master.
And so he traveled to the Seer, Meruhesae, as his last resort in locating his missing master. He knew she would not cooperate easily, and was correct in his judgement when she insisted on toying with him before assisting. Her games grew tiresome quickly, and Eclipse grew more and more irritated with time. Why? Why am I so worrisome? It was beyond him - never before had he been so desparate, so feverishly impatient. He didn't know what it was or why, but he knew he needed to return to his lord's side, and immediately.
"The greatest gift a servant gives his master is his trust," the Seer said, which caught Eclipse off-guard. Trust? "Master Krayon is testing you as well, Eclipse," she continued, "Demons live such very long lives. Contemplating the meaning of our existence every once in awhile isn't such a bad idea."
This reading was so very unorthodox, Eclipse wasn't sure what to make of it. Demons are built and taught to live only for themselves, to fight with any meants necessary to continue their own life, and never anyone else's. It was unheard of, absolutely absurd. Trust? Is a demon even capable of trust? Eclipse didn't have the answer, not from any text book or lesson or any experience to speak of, he had no clue. All he knew was that he wanted, no, needed to be by Lord Raenef's side, needed to protect him and needed to bring him home. It was not any logical thought, there was no logical reasoning behind it; Eclipse just knew it with every fiber of his being. With this thought in mind, he sought out after Lord Raenef, vowing to give his everything to him, to ensure his safety, no matter the cost.
------------------------
Lord Krayon's appearance at the castle was entirely unexpected, though Eclipse knew without a doubt that the Demon Lord was not there for a friendly visit. He had asked for Eclipse's service and, to the elder demon's dismay, he had humbly declined. Eclipse refused to serve anyone outside of the Raenef name and this offended Lord Krayon to no end. He did not feel guilt or shame, and was not regretful of his decision. He only worried what Lord Krayon's rage would bring upon Lord Raenef, and his concern was fulfilled within seconds of the elder Demon Lord's arrival.
"My rival is a child?" Krayon spat as he measured Raenef from head to toe.
The audacity! To insult his master and in front of his face - had it been any other person, Eclipse would have roasted them before they could beg for forgiveness. But Lord Krayon was a Demon Lord, and one of the eldest at that, so he had no place to word his...discomfort. Yet, as Lord Krayon teleported Lord Raenef and his friends to the dream dimension, Eclipse's worry and anger could not be contained.
"Wait, sto-!" But it was too late, they were already gone, and Krayon mocked Eclipse's concern. Lord Raenef had not been trained enough; he did not have the ability to escape another Demon Lord's realm alone. That alone was cause for panic but, at the same time, just the thought of Raenef not being with him-
"What's with that face?" Lord Krayon continued with his mockery, "Don't trust this one, eh? What a pity." Stop. Silence. How dare you? Eclipse bit his tongue, against every fiber of his being that was screaming in rage. Krayon continued, "How can you serve a master in whom you have so little faith? I should think your pride wouldn't stand for that."
This taunt was now not only directed at Raenef but at Eclipse himself. Pride? Where is pride a factor? Eclipse was highly regarded among the demon world. Everyone, even knowledgeable humans, knew of Eclipse's name and reputation. In the Hangma War, he was a demon among demons, a force of mass and brutal destruction that could compare only to the best of the best. The strongest Demon Lord perhaps in all of history, Lord Raenef IV, had studied trained beneath Eclipse and could attribute most of his strengths to him. Revered with fear and wonder, Eclipse had always been a force to be reckoned with.
Despite this, pride? Pride had never entered the equation with his new lord. It was never a thought that passed through his mind. The other demons, of course, could see the difference in skill and would make joke of such a grand demon "serving under a clown". But this did not bring shame to Eclipse - only rage that such slander was spoken against his master's name. Only dismay that their words discouraged his master and lead him to feel guilt on Eclipse's behalf.
Eclipse knew, without a shred of doubt, that these insolent scoundrels would be put in their places before long. Lord Raenef had been doubly blessed and Raenef IV's power was unparalleled; the strength was there, they just had to tap into it and train Raenef V to control it. And when his powers fully awaken, any fool that dared to slight his name shall beg for forgiveness. This, Eclipse knew - and it was this fact that drove him in his lessons. He knew Lord Raenef would be great and would be the one to help see him there.
Pride was never the issue for Eclipse. His only priority now was Lord Raenef, and everything else could be damned. He didn't care what the demon world thought of him and paid no attention to their scorn. Perhaps he was the only demon in the world to care so deeply for another demon, but he took it in stride and continued to dedicate his life to his master.
And thus, remaining silent during Lord Krayon's continued defamation of their names, Eclipse spoke only in gratitude once he was given permission to search for Lord Raenef's whereabouts.
"Prove to me that child is worthy of your devotion."
He knew not how to go about doing this, only that it was imperative he return safely with his master. Bowing his head, he resolved to do whatever it took to bring Lord Raenef home. "As you wish."
