Now that's interesting. I need to look deeper into that. A good theory of pre-consciousness might just make the picture even more interesting.

It's honestly not a very good novel (the author keeps trying to disavow it), but Neal Stephenson's The Big U explores this idea in an interesting way.

Dear God, I love reading the stuff like this that you write. I'd kill to hear a lecture on it - it's powerful and thought-provoking.
