Thank you for all the really nice comments on the love meme. It was so much fun to read through each page to comment on threads of people I've talked to or who I've seen around. It's also really interesting to see the waves of fandoms catching on in pan-fandom events. There's always an anime contingent that sweeps through, and then you can tell when Supernatural happens, kpop, and so on.
Four most recent days of the December Daily Meme (
original post):
December 18: Hidden or weird talents you have for
sagetan - I can balance multiple coins on my elbow and then slap my hand forward and catch them mid-air. I learned this from Lamb Chop's Play Along when I was very young.
- My mom's best friend told me the key to making a red light turn green, and then she swore me to secrecy. Maybe everyone knows this trick, but it is something I've kept very close to the chest.
- I have managed to open beer bottles with lighters. This is only possible for me sometimes, but it is a fun trick when you got it.
December 19: Three things you really like about your life or strange things that make you happy for
collsI'm going to go with "strange things that make me happy". The following are all material things, but know that I also love good will and sunshine:
- I love cute stationary. I have a box where I pseudo-organized my envelopes and stickers and stationary detritus, including bits of cute paper I think I may need at some point in life, and it is a very satisfying thing to have on a barely used desk.
- There's this black tank top from Cotton On that was four dollars and I wear it a lot. It is boring and long enough and so perfectly comfortable.
- I love my juicer. Carrot tangerine grapefruit ginger juice is the best thing I've ever had. You must try it.
December 20: What's your favorite concert memory for
lesson_in_loveThe second concert I went to was when I was in seventh or eight grade, and my two best friends and I went to a No Doubt concert. I thought it was going to be really nice and there'd be seating, but there was a mosh pit and I ended up near the front hanging out with a guy who wanted to give Gwen Stefanie a necklace he'd made her and we got her attention and he handed it to her. She was wearing a sparkly, pink, one-shouldered shirt and the whole thing was just really great.
December 21: Favorite subject in high school for
desertportEnglish, hands down. I have always been a huge English nerd. The only English class I didn't end up liking was 10th grade when I had a homophobic teacher who started marking me down unfairly after I asked her to help out with our school GSA. But other than that, my English teachers were always awesome, and their classes felt like safe havens and creative spaces where we did a lot of freeform learning. I was a modern literature major in college, where reading, writing, and critical analysis continued to be very rewarding and forever engrossing.
A close runner up, retroactively chosen, would be history. Some of the most hilarious people I know were history majors, and I really wish I'd paid attention in my required history classes and opted to take history instead of other electives. Instead, I used history classes to sleep through because by the end of high school I stayed up every night reading Harry/Draco fic. I do not regret the fic, not for a second, but I do need to make up for lost time and find some AP Euro textbook on amazon.
Tomorrow morning I am going to continue the slow rounding out of my
spn_j2_xmas fic. I also haven't entirely finished my
yuletide. It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas.
