[Ema's still shaken from the whole angels thing (and the uncomfortable night she spent with a certain Edward Nigma while spirited away to wherever that was), but an opportunity like this doesn't come up every day. They're being given the chance to explore their world beyond the one town; she'd be remiss as an investigator if she didn't jump at the ( Read more... )

If you're going, make sure to stop by the diner.

They have wonderful apple pie.

[And messages hidden in them. Though The Major would prefer not to say that out loud, and hope someone gets something more substantial then the mere "help us" he got in his. He can hardly prepare to do something on just that.]

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Tell me what you think afterwards.

I will. I plan on keeping a record of everything that happens once we exit town.

It'd be stupid to approach this in any other way.

I remember--I arrived right in the middle of the Westport mess.

Pack a bag, just in case. We need to be ready for anything.

What thread do you want to hit up in the event? freakinblur March 16 2011, 21:51:59 UTC
I'll be ready, sister!

[He will be over shortly with a car, and his usual bag packed with his scattergun, pistol, bat, and some Bonk and Crit-a-Cola. This kid is ready for battle.]

The diner? Ema's been pointed there, so she'll want to check it out first. glowing_science March 17 2011, 00:40:53 UTC
[Between that and the survival provisions Ema packed, they should be set! Until something horrible happens.]

Klavier wants to come, too. Do you mind going to pick him up?

[The male voice is low, cool, and deliberate. He sounds more curious than challenging.]

What makes you think it's an opportunity to do more than drive in circles?
You don't believe the information that's been put forward so far? Or you know something more than they did?

[socklessliving has the posts but this guy has the icons and editing, for the time being.]

Precedent. The last time people were allowed to leave the town, it lead to a nightmare for those who ended up trapped outside the town... and from there, we learned an awful lot.

I'm sure the people who have said they've found nothing have found nothing. But I doubt there's nothing to find; we just have to be patient and thorough.

Patient and thorough... yes.

It sounds like you're willing to endure a lot for information. What did you learn?

What did I learn? How do you mean--my training?

... We're going. Soon as I grab him, we're going.

[Which is supposed to be one of those "You won't be out there alone" reassurances, but he forgot to mention that part.]

[She kind of knows Sideswipe well enough by now to get the jist, anyway.]

I'll see you out on the road, then.

[i.e. "Take care of yourself and thank you."]

Yes, you will. The car is absolutely hideous, you can't possibly miss the damned thing.

Not a thing of mechanical beauty like yourself, I'm sure.

I'll keep my eyes peeled for it.

[After a bit of quiet deliberation, Edward picks up the phone and clears his throat before addressing her. His voice is relatively level, curt, and professional, yet there's still a faint bit of apprehension and insecurity in his tone.]

Question: Just what do you hope to find out there?

[He's hardly expecting her to give him a straight answer. And he's definitely not expecting her to extend an invitation to join her team, all things considered. But still. He's curious.]

[She hesitates before she answers. When she finally does respond, her tone is pretty much a mirror of his: cool, short, professional. Her conversation with Harley sticks in the back of her mind, but there's no point in bringing it up now.]

Anything.

Ideally, clues on what's going on here and how to break this quantum nightmare that is the town's sense of time and geography.

You realize you could be walking into a trap?

[Though he doubts that will stop her. It's not going to stop him from investigating, after all.]

I'm sure that I am. Either that, or something in their system has gone wrong and I'll be walking right into the backlash of it.

But I'm going.

[She almost asks him why he even cares--Harley's chipper 'I think he likes you anyway' fresh in her mind--but she refrains.]
