You sound like you had more clue what to do with a canoe than my dad and I did the week before.
I miss Jen! My parents' far-flung college friends have traditional planned get-together weekends-- but, granted, most of them are financially far better off than most of us, and the only ones who don't live in PA or a bordering state are the most well-off ones of all-- but I suppose it wasn't always that way and they found a way.
I am still bummed that I had to miss the wedding of one of my own bridesmaids, though.

We skipped the aquarium because it cost as much as the one in Baltimore, which we can go to anytime, and for which I can get super discount tickets from work. :)

I will have to look up the canoe stroke. I'm not sure about that now. I know you don't continuously switch sides like you would in a kayak, but I wonder if you do have to do it sometimes for steering. Maybe professionals don't. Anyway, I loved those pictures!
