Oishi turned off the water, stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel. It had been a long, hot day at the beach with the team and a cool shower was just what he had needed. As he dried himself off, Oishi checked himself in the mirror for any signs of sunburn or random bruising typical of an active teenage boy. Turning away satisfied with his examination, something in the mirror’s reflection caught his eye. Frowning, Oishi stepped closer to the counter and turned to see his back properly.
Right between his shoulder blades were three small characters, a shade paler than the rest of his back.
“I love you?” uttered Oishi, confused.
Now, if his back had been beet red (like Momo’s nose for instance) it wouldn’t of been much of a surprise, but the opposite? Oishi hopped up onto the counter and eyed the marks carefully, pondering their appearance. While they were far from perfect, the marks were certainly deliberate.
“Hoi, hoi, Oishi! Here! Use this instead!”
The voice of his partner rang through his head as Oishi gasped in realization. He had forgotten that Eiji had ambushed him with a bottle of sunscreen once they reached the beach.
“There! Now turn around so I can do your face, nya!”
Prone to burning himself, Eiji had then simultaneously droned on in a rather Inui-like fashion on the adverse effects of sunburns and slathering Oishi’s face in ‘SPF 90+ with Extra Vitamins and Moisturizers’. After a few minutes of fumbling, sputtering, and defensive maneuvers, Oishi had unloaded Eiji on an oblivious Echizen and moved on to take care of other beach necessities.
Oishi gazed at the words in the mirror a few minutes longer while his feelings wavered between pleasure and concern. While the gesture was sweet, it was also fairly troublesome and Oishi made a mental note to be extra careful when changing over the next few days. He debated scolding Eiji on his risky display of affection, but quickly tossed the idea aside; the note was small and easily to hide, there was no reason to make a big deal over it.
Besides, Oishi thought to himself, he was lucky, really.
Eiji could of written it on his forehead.
