[So very locked from Eva]

So, they've been awake all this time, huh? Figures Oban would have kept it a secret from me. Even though the Creators no longer rule over the galaxy, she'd still listen to them if they told her not to let on that they were awake.

I didn't know what I was doing. I thought I was just extending her lifespan. I mean, what do I know? Tens upon thousands ( Read more... )

Tradition is overrated. You rely on tradition too much, your society and ways of thinking stagnate and you lose sight of what you used to value. Even if you are one of the supposed "higher races."

Anyway, point is, I wouldn't say that you've done anything bad. Although... that is an awful decision to have to make. On both sides, I won't deny it. You know, I'll always listen. If you need to talk.

Yeah, but I think this might be taking things a bit too far. There's never been a situation like this before. Ever. Always one Avatar at a time.

The Creators really aren't too keen on the idea of me splitting my powers with Eva, and I can kind of see why. I mean, what if things don't work out for us later on down the line? She leaves, and takes half of my powers with her? Not really a good situation for the galaxy, is it?

Well... you could look at it another way. Two Avatars means that if one of you did go off the rails - which I don't think would happen, by the way - but if it did, then there'd be more chance of stopping you.

Besides, even if what you said did happen... I don't think that either of you would misuse your powers. You know better than that.

Well, when you put it like that ... it doesn't sound too bad.

Well, I know better now. I've had a few years of practice. But Eva's going to be new to all of this, so it'll be my responsibility to teach her how to use her powers. The Creators won't be around to do that for her.

A rather strange method of choosing the Avatar, that.

I have to admit, I was pretty shocked to learn that "God" is basically chosen through an intergalactic race.

Still, Eva won the right to the Avatar's crown fair and square, so I guess it makes sense that she still has a claim to it. Even so, there's never been a situation before where the Avatar could share his powers with another.

You would not be ruling as equal, opposite aspects of the Avatar? It would be more... a partnership, then?

(Apollo is so confused. He's thinking, "Back in my day, we didn't have any of this nonsense!" XD)

Yeah! Exactly! Although, I'm sure that, given our distinct personalities, we may end up personifying opposing aspects. Like, well, I'm a guy, so I'd be the masculine principle, and Eva's a girl, so she'd be the feminine principle, just like Oban. (Maybe that's why the majority of Avatars in the past were male?)

Basically, every Avatar is different. Whatever qualities one possessed as a mortal are simply enhanced when one becomes Avatar. So, take me for instance: I'm a down-to-earth kind of guy. I like to garden and enjoy nature. I'm hands-on. I prefer to use brawn rather than brains, and I act before I think. So, when I became Avatar, it was mostly physical aspects that were enhanced: greater strength, keener senses, and the uncanny ability to make plants grow exceptionally well. I can do other things, too, but that's just to give you an idea.

(It's a pretty interesting aspect of the series. Mortals becoming gods. In Hindi mythology, Avatar really means the "human" or mortal incarnation of a god, but in Oban Star-Racers, it's the

She'll figure it out for herself.

I know she will. I just don't want to pressure her into coming to a decision before she's ready.
