The Crogs have begun to mobilize. Looks like they're taking the "let's build up our forces and then exact our revenge on the Earth Coalition" route. They're planning to take back some of the holdings they lost previously after their armada was decimated three years ago. Squadrons are already en route to Byrrus and other worlds in the surrounding ( Read more... )

Jordan? Are you all right?

No, not really.

I should have known that three years was too long. Things have been seething under the surface, and now everything's about to boil over.

I see. I'm sorry to hear that.

Do you need any assistance?

I'm not sure what you can do to help, Gaara. This is a conflict on a far larger scale than you can imagine.

There's still time to try and avert an all-out war. But we'll have to work fast and start getting all these factions to talk to one another first ...

So why don't you blow up these crog-people?

I can't just commit genocide, Mariach! Even though the Crogs are violent and warlike, it doesn't make them evil. Just ... different. It took me a long time to finally realize that. They have just as much right to live as anyone else.

So... Blow up their weapons?

Again, not that simple. I ... it's not my place to try and change the way the galaxy works with my own two hands. I can't show any favoritism toward one race over the other. Besides, if I bail the Earth Coalition out, then they'll never learn how to handle conflicts on their own.

All I can do is try to facilitate matters from behind the scenes ... and maybe they'll all take the hint.

... Blimey. It's never a moment of rest over there for you at the minute, is it?

You're right about that. It seems like only a few moments of peace every now and then. Then again, I'm actually kind of surprised that it's been three years, and the Crogs have only just decided their plan of action. Maybe they're getting smarter?

Maybe. There must be something you can do though. Right? There's always something.

All I can really do--all I can allow myself to do--is to try and warn as many people as I can. I find it's easier to communicate with people through their dreams. But its a question of nudging the right people in the right positions of power. And if they'll even heed my warnings ...

These things take time Jordan. If I start rushing things now, it will look suspicious on my end. But I assure you, we are getting close. Once it is, I shall return home if the situation continues to be as fragile as it is.

You have my sincerest apologies for breaking my promise a second time Jordan....

I know, I know. And I don't want you to concede to any unfair demands that the Earth Coalition will try put on you. As much as I hate to admit it, humans can be pretty greedy and manipulative. Seems our current government is just as power hungry as the Crogs, in some respects ...

Augh, dammit Aikka, stop apologizing for things that are beyond your control, all right?! I know you have duties and responsibilities. I mean, who doesn't? That's just the way life goes.

Oh, Jordan. I...I'm afraid I have little to offer you by way of comfort, but it's never a glad thing to hear tales of war, even war a-brewing. I'm so sorry.

Thanks. And your words do mean something to me. It's good to see you back on the comm.

Well, in all honesty, this is something I should have anticipated a long time ago. I'm actually surprised that it's taken three years for this conflict to start simmering again.

I shall try not to be away for so long in the future.

There is no shame in optimism, in hoping that the conflict wouldn't reignite.

I'm not saying that! I mean, everyone needs a vacation from all the crazy every now and then. At least you had time to catch up on your work.

True, but sometimes excessive optimism can backfire. In any case, we've caught things in time, so maybe there's still a chance that disaster can be averted.
