I'm probably going to regret this ...

I know I've made some stupid decisions in this past (oh, did I ever), but I think I've just made the most abysmally stupid decision of all time ( Read more... )

crogs, taking in a stray, oban, political intrigue, is this a bad thing?

That is a potentially volatile situation.

Yeah. That's why I've made sure they stay far away from the Inna (a race of all female aliens who I've also offered asylum, until they find a new world to call home).

But still ... I can't just turn my back on them. They seem sincere in their desire to not involve themselves in this potential conflict.

I understand. Are there many people that oppose your decision?

Actually, no one of importance even knows that I'm doing this. And ... the only one with any objections seems to be Eva ... but that's another story.

Well, considering you're god and all, they can't really do anything to you, can they?

Uh ... actually, there's a reason that Oban is constantly surrounded by a magnetic storm. It's to keep out any would-be invaders. See, Oban and I share a life force. If anyone could just come here and start tampering with the environment, that would be a VERY BAD THING for me.

Maybe you shouldn't put them right where you are then. Maybe you should stick them somewhere nearby that you can keep an eye on them, but they couldn't hurt you.

Well, they're not "right" where I am. I've allowed them to live in one of the many abandoned cities scattered throughout Oban.

And, well, I'm considering this as a gesture of goodwill. By letting them stay on my home turf (where they could potentially do me harm) then we will be entering into an unspoken agreement not to betray our agreement. After all, when I'm on Oban, that's when my powers are strongest. I could obliterate them in an instant. It'd take them a lot longer to do enough damage to the environment where it would have any impact on myself.

... That... does sound like a potentially bad situation you've got there, Jordan. But if you ask me, it was the right thing to do. They won't get shelter anywhere else, and who knows? If they carry on this way, then they could be of some help.

You know, I used to hate the Crogs because of what they did to my grandfather. But it wasn't until after I became Avatar that I realized they're not really an "evil" race. I think it's a bit naive to think that an entire race of people can be either totally "good" or totally "evil". And in a way, I think the Crogs are more cruel to their own people than they are to other races.

Seeing these rebels actually begin to question the validity of their society and its morals ... that gives me hope that maybe humans, Nourasians, and Crogs can co-exist peacefully. I desperately want to believe that such a thing is possible.

Well, it is naive. I mean, look at human beings, for a start. The best and the worst of everything, you've got.

Well, everything begins with a first step. I mean, who knows, if people see the rebels getting along and having more success than the other two factions, the Crog leaders might end up with more rebels on their hands. Or at least, you'd hope so.

Yeah. I definitely understand that now more than ever. I guess one of the perks about being god is that it allows you to enjoy a much larger perspective on things.

That's what I'm hoping. But first thing's first: I have to let the rebels establish a new way of life on Oban. After that comes the hard part: getting them to speak with the EC President and the King of Nourasia.

I'm inclined to believe you made the rrright decisssion, Jorrrdan.

I hope so. I want to believe that these rebels are sincere in their desire to live in a way that doesn't depend on violence or war to validate their existence. I have faith that all people are capable of change, and maybe this is proof of my beliefs.

I can only hope they don't betray your faith, then, because it's a terrible shame to be proven wrong in one's belief in the best of people.

That's why I'm going to be spending a lot of time working with them. I need to help them get a city established and teach them how to live in a "nature friendly" lifestyle. It's going to be difficult, I imagine, but it's a necessary step if I'm going to let them stay here. Hopefully, we can learn from each other by working together, side by side.

couldn't you train them up, so they won't be as vulnerable?
i know they want to be peaceful, but you can know how to defend yourself and still be peaceful.
the Force had to save these refugees once. I keep telling Synbios he should have made them join, but he won't listen.

The Crogs are said to be "evolutionarily superior" when it comes to combat. In other words, they were literally "born for battle." But that doesn't count for anything when the entire galaxy is against you. Numbers do count for something.

I'm hoping that by granting the rebels asylum, I'll be able to gain valuable information about the state of affairs on Kramm and maybe even learn about any new technology they've been developing. The more we know about our enemy, the better we can prepare ourselves should the unthinkable happen ...

being horribly outnumbered never seems to worry Synbios...

That may be true, but just because you don't care how horribly out-numbered you are doesn't mean that it'll make a lick of difference in an actual fight. That just sounds like needless sacrifice, to me.
