[RL with Darc] Tapping Into Your Inner Element

Feb 10, 2009 21:55

Jordan had agreed to teach the young Deimos King how to wield "true" magic. He wasn't sure if he'd be successful or not, but considering Darc's origins... It would probably just be a matter of tapping into his own unlocked potential and drawing on his magical bloodline ( Read more... )

Darc nodded, no shortage of determination. "I'm ready, alright." The wind felt good against his skin, calming somehow, although it also reminded a part of him of the days when he once had wings. But now was no time for nostalgia - there was work to be done.

Jordan stood with hands on his hips and drew a deep breath.

"All right! First thing's first. Let's start with some basic breathing exercises. Visualization and meditation are important factors when trying to connect with your inner self."

The young Avatar sat down and crossed his legs in the Lotus Position, hands cupped in his lap.

"Now, close your eyes and take slow, deep breaths. Concentrate on the movement of air flowing into your lungs."

Breathing? It seemed a little odd to Darc. He had to remind himself that Jordan was trying to teach him, so it must be helpful somehow. A part of him was still sceptical - he had never had an actual teacher after all, and he didn't always take well to being told what to do.

He's not trying to enslave me. Just do it.

Closing his eyes as instructed, Darc took in a long, deep breath, feeling the breeze around him being drawn in, then exhaled back into the air. Again he did this, and again. The air felt good, and not just in the sense that it was essential; he felt in-tune with it somehow.

"There... Can you feel it?" Jordan said, eyes still closed. "Air is all around you. It's an invisible yet subtle force. It can take the form of a gentle breeze, like a breath upon your cheek... Or it can become a force of untold destruction, capable of leveling buildings in a matter of seconds."

He opened his eyes, shining in the afternoon light. "Some people say that wind is the weakest of the four elements, but that is not the case. It is ever-changing and relentless. Wind possesses the capability to carve through even the hardest rocks and to wear down the tallest mountains. But to control it... you need patience and a gentle touch. One cannot simply strike the air and make it obey. It is winsome and unbridled. You must understand these precepts if you are going to gain mastery over it."
