So, how would you explain or simplify the meaning of this expression (in the romantic sense) for someone learning English, *without* bringing up (and then trying to somehow also explain) all the complicated baggage of love-as-possession and such? Because in addition to that being extra difficult to explain on top of it, it's probably not literally

Explain it as a shorter version of phrases like "I'm yours to love if you want me", implying not possession but rather a declaration of presence and availability to the person in question?

That's what I was going to say, it's a shorthand way of conveying a much less threatening phrase (or implying it) while being short makes it easier to say at a time or situation that a longer phrase might be harder, more problematic, to say.
