I just got a call from an employment agency I'd been waiting to hear from. It seems my application had been held up because a background check revealed that I had neglected to mention I had been charged with a a crime.

The date: September, 1996.

The offence: Drinking a beer at a Monkees show when I was 18.

So what does that mean? Are they holding that against you?

Because I, for one, am both shocked and appalled. I would never hire someone who had a drink ten years ago.
