I glad you didn't post a link to your pictures so I wasn't bored by photos of your grandfather's workshop. On an unrelated note, how, exactly, do you rescue ships with a cannon?
Happy New Year to you too! Did you guys survive the snow? Were there wolves and igloos and such? (I assume that's what happens when it in Seattle.)
The ship rescue cannon is awesome! I got to see a demonstration in North Carolina once. If you have a ship wrecked pretty close to shore (stuck on a sandbar, for instance), you use it to shoot a line out to the ship. Once it's tied off, there's a bucket that carries one person at a time back to shore. I think you have to be a good shot though... if you miss the ship the first time, your rope is all spooled out and then what do you do?
