Dudes chill he is just one man

Obama is now President.  And?  He is 1/3 of the power base of the country.  Yes he is the first bi-racial president (that we know of heh) in US History.  Big whoop.  America shouldn't be about race or gender.  I don't CARE what color the man is.  I care about him doing a good job for every American.  And I hope that he can.  I'm sceptical (he has ( Read more... )

Every time I read something about how awesome the country is going to be overnight, I think about the South Park episode that was run right after the election where all the Obama supporters are getting tanked and running around screaming, "CHANGE!"

I agree with a LOT of what you said, but you have to remember that Bush is the guy who told us to go to the mall after 9/11 and appointed an SEC chairman who was on vacation during the economic fallout. While it wasn't 100% Bush's fault, he didn't provide any leadership to prevent it, slow it, stop it or fix it.

Obama's just another politician, but I hope he restores our Constitutional rights that have been stripped by Bush. Nonetheless, booing a person is always sad.

Heh. Believe me I am not a Bush supporter. It just worries me that people are so SURE the world has changed over night and all bad things no longer will happen. One man can't make things change. It takes everyone. And unfortunately, cynical me, doesn't think this will happen. I HOPE for change as in that the economy rebounds and that the world gets better. But... it won't be the one man. I know people don't like Bush. Heck *I* didn't like him. But at least the man has the balls to stand up for what he believes in. He made a choice and stood by it. Unlike a lot of people in Congress who made choices and then not "changed their minds" but backpedal. You can change your mind... but don't do it because you think it will get you votes. Change your mind because you learned new things or something else mindblowing. Not because your idea isn't popular now ( ... )

I'm pretty cynical, too, and I think a lot of what we saw and heard yesterday were people expressing their momentary excitement. People say dumb stuff when excited, without remembering their civics classes (or college poli sci classes in my case). You know I'm pretty heavy in the Obama camp and am surrounded by other supporters, and everyone I know has their heads on straight. We cried yesterday and whooped and hollared, but then wiped our faces and started talking about what we want him to do and whether or not he will. People will catch up after the bloom is off the rose ( ... )

FYI, I know you're not a Bush supporter. I think I just took an opportunity to vent. ;-) You know I seldom talk politics, so sometimes it bottles up in me and I burst. ESPECIALLY living where we do.

From someone who did support President Bush, I thank you for your common sense about respect and dignity :) Whatever your politics, he kept the country safe and like he said, while most of us went back to our lives, he never did. I respect the man and the work he did. That said, I hope President Obama 'succeeds' in his administration by restoring the economy, and keeping the country safe.
