So this is how I started my thursday morning. Get down to Work, start getting the boat ready, and have my crew working on some various tasks, when my boss called and said "There's a loose barge going to the railroad bridge"
so I had to evacuate our dock, and get our tugboat up and running so we could try to prevent our work from being destroyed.
I know it's slow moving, and you can't really tell what's going on in that video, but that's a loaded barge ( so it weights about 1500 Tons, which is a lot of momentum.) broke loose of the fittings it was at, around a mile upstream from us, it came down and smashed into a railroad swing bridge, and then bumped the Smith Ave High bridge, and entered downtown, which is right above us. so ours is that little tug boat that comes in first to steer it and slow it down before the big tug comes to grab it and take it home.
nobody was hurt but this dude was on board the thing the whole time.
a couple of my coworkers as we touched up
and this is what our tug is normally used for, pushing a passanger barge
