Nursing again

I know I am posting at crazy times.  Baby wouldn't sleep.  Fed her all the BM I had, still fussy, finished with formula.  Anyway, do you think an SNS would help her learn to feed effectively and build my supply?  I don't know that much about them, but I am at my wits end over this supply thing.  I think I will power pump later and see what that ( Read more... )

Please don't think this too weird, but...I'll be in Atlanta for a week, starting next week. Would you like some milk? It wouldn't be tons and tons, but a few oz a day. Our kids are the same age, so the milk should work for Reagan, and maybe ou'd feel a bit easier having a bit more BM. I know you don't know me, but Lynn and a few others can vouch for me! And either answer is fine with me!

btw, I totally hear you on crazy posting times! Mine has been up pretty much all night using me as a pacifier. Not eating, just making sure I'm awake.

I can vouch. Non-drinker, non-smoker, non-med-taking clean person. :)

In the interest of full disclosure, I take a prenatal vitamin and a flax seed oil supplement (for omega-3s).

Yes! An SNS is an excellent way to feed supplemental milk while also stimulating your supply. You can adjust the flow, too, so as you're trying to rely on supplements less, you can adjust the SNS's flow accordingly. Using an SNS is a good way to teach her that the breast is where food happens. It keeps her from going back and forth from breast to bottle more than necessary, which helps with the flow/nipple preference issue and keeps her latch good. It also provides much needed stimulation to your breasts and lets them know to kick it up a notch!

Try asking for SNS pointers in breastfeeding -- there are some mamas there who have used them to great success!

I think it probably would. I used the Lact-Aid, which I preferred over the Medela one. There's a learning curve, but once you get it down it's easy, and you aren't wearing a giant hard plastic bottle around your neck. Beth used the same kind with Jonas, too.

Did you get it from an LC or just buy it online? Can you send me the link again if I need to get it online? And thanks for the info.

Did you get the standard or deluxe? I am not sure what the difference is.

Any IBCLC should be able to get you an SNS. Bella wouldn't use one, but she was older than your little one when I tried. It is definitely worth a shot, mama!
