I would like to post my highly developed theory about Deathly Hallows so that it goes on the record before the book comes out.
Okay. Here it is.
Snape is/was in love with Lily. When he overheard the prophecy from Trelawney, he told Voldemort because he wanted Voldemort to kill James and Harry and leave Lily for him. He made an Unbreakable Vow with Voldemort that he wouldn't kill Lily--this is why Voldemort lost his power and didn't have the strength to kill Harry. He didn't die from breaking the Vow because he had already split his soul. When Snape found out that Lily, too, was dead, he decided he would betray Voldemort as Voldemort betrayed him. Thus, Snape is not necessarily on the side of the Order, but preoccupied with his revenge.
So, yeah.
