Loved this. I like when you write AU/canon combos. :)

And where you get those pictures, chico? Lovely......

i image searched "sunflower field men" and those came up... i wasn't gonna add the second one but had to include it, to show they did have fun, even after all those years of "old cold times" where jack waited for so long. :)

So nice to have them romp among the sunflowers - led us to the feeling that great sadness is not just on the horizen. Very touching and I had such an image of tall, yellow, benign flowers.
Thank you for the ride!

thanks for reading! it's weird, i didn't expect the story to get so sad, it just sort of dissolved into the sadness.

Happy and then sad!! The first part feels like it could be anytime, but then the end... is definitely the end. I read what you said in Comments about forgetting the "miss you so much I can hardly stand it" line -- I was struck by how the screenwriters tinkered w/it, from the OS ("J said he sometimes missed E enough to make him whip babies" or something). Sounds like you are writing canon from memory at this point; it's interesting to see what sticks out.

omg, happy, and then a saaaad -- that reminds me of miss bunny swan at the hair salon from mad tv. :D yes, from memory, i lost my digital copy of the original story and i would refer to that often with other fics, so this was somewhat interesting.

hope your long weekend is going well. we've got great weather, that's for sure! ^_^

Awww..up until the last scene I really.liked this spontaneous and even cocky Ennis
"i'm bright eyed and bushy-tailed for once, take advantage of it," ;)

...but the end.. *sigh* I always feel funny at that scene. I kinda feel like Jack here, all crushed and like 'does he not give a shit?' but at the same time it could all just be a self-preserving act on Ennis's part. :(
