thanks babe i appreciate it! might take you up on the offer, with books maybe. I'm trying to minimalise the crapola in my life as much as possible though so I want to be brave and throw some things away. (Says the girl who just ordered 2 pairs of shoes and some clothes to be awaiting me when i get home to Perth in Feb! :p).
I will call you sometime this week to discuss us hanging out in December! yay! xx
Ugh. That's why I had to do the shipping thing when I left.
The thing that bugs me is that the weight of the person used to play a big part in whether they charged you excess baggage - and also where you got to sit on the plane - airlines used to hire people to visually estimate your weight at check in and allocate you a seat accordingly so that the plane was balanced.... If you're on a plane with big burly Lee sized men with their baggage maxed out, you totally shouldn't have to pay extra to make up the same weight.
Modern airline practice just boggles my mind with its compete lack of logic.
i know! I want to avoid it if i can...i how much did it cost, do you remember? I have a big set of scales at work so i'm going to pack up some stuff in a week or so and check my weights....i totally get the whole madness airline practice now. I'm only a little person! quite little anyway...so i dont take up much space or weight in a plane at all!...i think they may be slacking off a bit on the hand luggage thing in the New Year though. It;s been only one piece of hand luggage for over a year (literally one, just one, no handbags, camerabags, nothing else just ONE)...but they might let you take two...so a-cramming i will go! xxx
Really? Carry on used to be great - I took about a second suitcase full of stuff as carry-on all the way home.
For posting I rang around and found a place that shipped one big box for about 50 pounds (plus a surcharge for using creit card, and a 4% charge for insurance), which really is't that bad. Most shiping companies charge on volume, not weight, so if you're good at packing things all tiny, you can do it pretty cheaply.
i heard that emirates let you take 30kgs - maybe investigate those guys? also if you come back to australia via USA you can take 30kgs too... good luck xx
