Dr Brain?

Does anyone remember those Dr Brain games? You know, those edutainment games made by Sierra in the 90s? I have this sudden wish to find one of them again: the Lost Mind of Doctor Brain. That game was... great. I bed it wouldn't even play on a Vista computer, though. Probably would need... windows 95 or something like that. Oh well ( Read more... )

Eh, I probably would. =x I don't mind making mistakes when I try something new.

But he has this habit, now, of standing behind me when I'm cooking and telling me I'm doing things wrong. It really, really bugs me and makes me not want to cook at all anymore. I've told him not to, but he just says 'Well, then you'll ruin the food.'

I usually end up messing up /because/ he's watching me. It makes me nervous.

Yuck, doesn't sound like he's very nice about it. I'd want to clobber anyone that did that to me. :/ Maybe try cooking stuff when he's not around? If that is all possible.

Or better yet invite a friend/family member over that won't tell you what to do so that you can have fun doing it rather than have an annoyance. Or maybe next time he complains, hand him the spoon/bowl or whatever and say he can do it if he won't leave you alone. Chances are he wouldn't want to do the cooking and rather the eating so maybe he'll get the hint?

I wish you luck!

He's not a bad guy. He just doesn't know the difference between helping and being overly critical and upsetting me.

>.> No, he'll actually just take over cooking if I hand him the spoon. He really /does/ think that he knows better in those situations. He'll just complain later that I 'made' him cook on my turn.

*Agrees with your friend*
I say do it! Who cares if he thinks you'll "mess up" At least you're trying to do it.

I keep thinking that if I don't do it every year, I won't ever do it and I won't ever learn how. One day, I think people in my family /will/ expect me to be able to cook a holiday meal. And I know /he/ isn't going to do it. =P He hates real food.

Well you got to give it a chance!
He doesn't hate food, he just doesn't like the fact that no one can cook the turkey like his mom *i read your other comments, and this is my conclusion* If you can somehow do it without him around, i say make something, and prove that you can do it, when he's not being a betch about it. And if not, try not to listen to him *though i know how hard this is XD*

Is that just a guy thing?

I mean, Adam doesn't cook like my step-dad either, but I don't hold that against him. (Yeah, my mom wasn't the cook of my household. =x Not unless she had a dinner party, that is.)

You could opt for a small chicken instead. Perhaps he'd be more interested in that?

It depends on the game as to if it would work or not. I have an old game from about 10 years ago that I tried playing on XP (at that point it was only a 6yr old game) and while I could get most of it to to run, some of the mechanics went so fast that it was unplayable (ie my character walked waaaay too fast to control). Vista might have better old compatibility modes (you can set it to run a program on windows 98 compatibility) than XP does. So, it could very well be possible to run it on vista.

He doesn't dislike turkey, though, at least when his mom makes it. I honestly think that it's all a matter of him thinking I'm going to waste money though an inedible screw-up. Cooking has become this source of tension between us ( ... )

>=[ I should!

'Cause when his mom sends him rice crispies squares, he won't share them with me. He gets mad if I eat them.

He's... kinda always home now, though, since they cut his hours at Zellers. He gets off at like 1PM, so he always gets home before me.
