Oh, get ON with your bad self! What a great list and you put it together so fast too! Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine is a freakin' CLASSIC. You are so right there. Plus, good on you for throwing up some RHCP though I would've gone with their earlier stuff. I went 'round and 'round about Pink Floyd (I own their collected works) but honestly couldn't pick ONE and didn't want to list them all.
The swiftness with which I posted my list is very deceptive of how long it actually took. When you mentioned it in your lj a few days ago I began metally compiling my list. When I actually sat down to do my own list, I first listed all of the bands/singers that I thought belonged on my list. Then I went to wikipedia.com and found lists of rock/alternative, country and classic rock bands to make sure I didn't miss anybody. Then I picked ONE CD/album from each artist's collection (since the list was only 30 long and I had about 75 artists on my list, I figured that not doubling up was the best way for me to represent as many as I could!). Then I saved copies of all 75 album covers and started my list. I went through and tried to rank them as best as I could. The top 5-10 are def in order, Number 1 being by and far my most moving and influential album. Occasionally I had one at the bottom that should have been a little higher up but to err is human
