Tools.

Last night I went out and got the new Tool album at the HMV midnight release thing with the lovely 21_botanicals. I must say my interest in Tool has dwindled a bit over the years (when I was about 16 they were the shit) mainly because Tool fans kinda shit me. Hippies. We had a couple drinks at this place that was like my nanas house, only with dimmer lighting ( Read more... )

Yeah, you need to open your mind and align you chakras and shit by looking at the trippy 3D images before you can fully understand 10k Days.

...it's interesting how much Alex Grey incorporates chakras into his art. i love the stereophonic image that appears to be looking 'up' the spine from the inside.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I like it. Like I said, it sounds like Tool, so that can't be bad. Certainly not blowing my mind or anything though.

in addition to already posted above comments by myself.

i had no real expectations for the album and all the hype was really annoying me, so when i actually heard it, i was amazed. Way too much to take it all in on the first couple of listens, but even then i could tell there was lots of special moments in here. The artwork/packaging is the most DELUXE thing i've ever seen for a CD (which might not even be an exaggeration) and at first i was more impressed with that, simply because it's so damn impressive! But listening to the actual music more, the density of it, the depth and richness... i've been finding that the songs, despite their length, feel cut short and from interviews that seems to be very much the case. These are the SHORTENED versions of the original songs, which were more of several hour long jams to begin with. Can't help wishing i could've heard those! Wow ( ... )

Yeah, I felt the same way about all that hype, I stopped wearing my Tool shirts becuase I got stick of fanboys quizzing me on which shows I went too, which albums I have and Maynards bathroom habits.

After almost a week I can definitely say the albums growing on me more and more, normally I find long songs dragging a bit, but I agree, these don't. I can't help but wonder how long the album will be printed this way though, I have a feeling in a year or so we'll be seeing regular CD cases with little cardboard glasses tucked in them or something. They can't be cheap to make, and AU 2nd pressings always look worse than the first.

Speaking of headphones, that reminds me, I have to put 10k Days on MD!
