My poor itchy scabby baby

Found out today that Zachariah does have eczema. Not very pleasant but at least now we are being given more help in how to manage the condition (our health visitor is apparantly an expert in skin conditions and am seeing her next monday). We are hoping to avoid having to use steroid creams so are trying every other avenue first. To add insult to ( Read more... )

Unclean! Unclean! Poor little mite. For the thrush - are you allowed to feed him natural yogurt at his age, cos that's the traditional remedy?

Do they know what is sparking off the eczema yet?

Poor love, The health visitor may recommend Dermol 600 which is a very good emolllient for eczema and other skin conditions, or E45.

Steroids aren't often used, in my experience on someone so young! Hope he feels better soon!

Thank you all. No we don't know what triggers it yet so have to keep place hoovered and dusted, no flowers, no softener in washing, no wool, no soft toys (boo hoo - no licking the crab), only cotton clothes (for us and him) and sheets and keep him cool etc etc until we can pinpoint the trigger. Apart from that we have to smother him in Diprobase (an emollient) and aqeous cream every two hours and bath him in special stuff as well as giving him drops for the thrush so poor baby is not so happy. We are going to try everything to get it under control so any suggestions gratefully received.

He is too young for yogurt unfortunately as his gut hasn't fully formed yet so cannot process it. it is annoying as would rather not be giving him drugs, but an itchy mouth as well is the last thing he needs so must persevere although more of it ends up on his chin and me than actually goes in his mouth (strange when he normally licks and chews everything in sight).

Diprobase is good stuff, I hope he feels more comfortable soon! Aqueous cream is great and can be used as a "soap" Poor babe, must be horrible when you can't express what your needs are!
