i am reminded of an anecdote about the first of a family to graduate college, then medical school. when he told his family that he did not intend to be a physician, they balked: "so WHAT did we waste all of that money for?!" he replied: "someone has to teach the doctors"
many of our professors are still revolutionaries - cracking open minds and broadening perspectives. i often get a quizzical reaction - "why do you want to STAY in school? i can't wait to get out!" - when i say that i want to teach - i want to profess. i want influence. i want to take advantage of the prestige and privilege of academia (and those who support and utilize it, to whatever end) to achieve my ends.
if that doesn't make me a revolutionary, i don't know what else will.
because i'm but one person (as far too many people these days recognise, at a loss of progressive social change). but i talk loud.
