Music-themed survey!!
1. What instrument do you play?

Primarily viola, guitar (though I haven't played in a while), piano.

2. How long have you been playing it?

Viola since 4th grade, guitar since 7th or so, piano since last spring.

3. What types of ensemble do you play it in (string orchestra, symphonic orchestra, concert band, etc.)?

String (NHS chamber) and symphony (festivals, NHS syphony)

4. What is your favourite piece/suite you've played?

Very hard to say. Favorite orchestral piece, probably Elgar's string serenade. Or Brandenburg 3. Solo, I'm a big fan of Schubert's Arpeggione sonata (this year's NYSSMA piece) or Hindemith's op. 11 no. 4 sonata.

5. What is your favourite piece/suite in general?

Good god, there are so many. I'm very much into the Russian stuff, Mussorgsky's Pictures and Boris Godunov and most of Rachmaninoff's stuff. I love Beethoven's 6th symphony. And Perotin's 12th century stuff is awesome. Oh and Mahler's song cycles.

6. Who is your favourite composer?

Mussorgsky, Steve Reich, Thomas Tallis, Holst, Mahler, Arvo Part, John Adams, these things change almost every day.

7. Who is your least favourite composer?

Mozart's pretty wack. So is Mendelssohn (sp).

8. What piece have you never played that you want to play?

Those crazy Hindemith sonatas and concertos, Der Schwanendreher epecially. I would love to play Beethoven's 6th, Part's Fratres, Mahler's symphonies or Das Lied Von Der Erde. Mussorgky's Pictures either on piano or Ravel-ified. Bach's Mass in B Minor
