This entry is going to entirely about things I like, like TV shows or books or stuff. Because there's actually nothing happening in my own life (except my ongoing struggle with insomnia, about which maybe I will say more later - like 3 am. Would 3 am be good for you? Because apparently it's a great time for me!) But I feel that I need to ask some ( Read more... )

want a cd full of MP3s to digest, or does music fit into a different cultural realm?

and did I ever lend you The City of Saints and Madmen or the utterly amazing Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (although I think I promised to lend that one out...), or the book of 4 distopian novellas Cities?

my mother is telling me to read a book called The History of Love which sounds breathtakingly beautiful in the bits she's read to me, and I am reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Strange Pilgrims at the moment. But most of the books on this list I have not read, and will make an effort to become better acquainted with them.

and yes, I'm a night owl myself.

I have not read ANY of the things of which you speak. More proof that we are not keeping in good touch. It might have something to do with my mental health recently. I'll talk to you about that some other time.

Although I would love a CD of MP3s, I have no CD drive at the moment and haven't for some time. It died and needs to be replaced but I havent' been able to live without the computer long enough to surrender it to the repair shop. I might just end up buying the part and doing it myself, but on my laptop that means taking out EVERYTHING else inside there to get at it and I'm a little bit afraid that Baby'd never run again...

I propose a somewhat-expensive but fully functional alternative, presuming that you have spare USB slots. Just an idea.

and couldn't you just take advantage of iTunes sharing and forcibly place the music on Ben's iTunes and listen to it that way, then take what you wanted using mytunes or just burning cds?

sorry, I was raised in a family where if something doesn't work, you find a way to make it work.

tempting. But, well, right now this is the last internet access I will have for a while. And as for the external drive, it kind of defeats the purpose of having a laptop: portability. If you hand me a CD next time I'm in Newton, I will dump it into my parent's computer and then finagle it onto mine. That's what I usually do, but in Amherst, it's harder. I could do it off Ben's if his computer didn't live in the lab.

Anything Salman Rushdie would be really good if you like magical realism. I've only read Midnight's Children and am reading The Moor's Last Sigh right now.
