I recently finished reading all four novels in the "Twilight" series, and though I was unimpressed...well, they weren't as bad as I thought in some ways, but worse than I expected in others.

"Imprinting" on infants and toddlers, for example. Is anyone as squicked by the thought as I am, or has motherhood altered my perceptions? Frankly, I find it ( Read more... )

In short, there are characters (assumed to be werewolves, but later revealed to be shapeshifters in wolf form) who find themselves "imprinting" on a future mate. As the story goes, you first meet a young man who imprinted on another woman, despite being in love with his girlfriend, and it's explained that imprinting is irresistible. The female may not "want" him, but can't resist the attraction and devotion he displays, so they pair off anyway ( ... )
