Not being depressed doesn't really give you the right to tell people how not depressed they should be. No one chooses to be depressed. I agree that you and I have the hindsight of saying, "Wow, being depressed and distant during the best year of your life is stupid," but usually things are the way they are for a reason. That being said, nostalgia is for stupids.
it was more of strong advice than a command. from my heart because im more than aware of what depression is and how it works. and i would never say that being depressed is stupid at all. my awareness of reasons for everything is very great. and when i use the word depressed i do not mean it in a purely clinical manner.
and actually i dont think high school is the best years of our lives, the best years of my life, at least haven't even come yet.
and nostalgia helps make us who we are. sometimes it sad but sometimes is grand.
I don't think what I said changes depending on if it was advice or a command. I was definitely generalizing about HS being the best time, I meant more or less its the time with most interconnectedness of friends, least responsibilities, etc etc: the time of your life you shouldnt squander on being depressed about petty things. My main point was that things change for a reason. People change and friendships evolve, its never really worth stressing over and trying to make things that don't work anymore... work.
I guess the other point was that you should know from experiance that you can't just snap out of a funk from some advice. Just wanted to throw it out there ;)
- nothing is written in stone so protect yourself and dont put all your eggs in one basket.
-we're too young to know exactly what we want. keep in mind that you might just change your mind tomorrow. be careful
think of the decision you made at the end of your senior year.
you make some valid points but like how ryan put it, "you can't just snap out of a funk from some advice." plus i don't think any of us are giving up or "done" with anything. mckenzie's moving to san francisco for the better. she'll be able to creatively express herself, film, and live with people who emotionally support her. why not you know? shes successfully beaten the system and i don't think theres any need for any of us to worry about her well being, she'll do great.
jill. understand im not tryin to step on anyone. im not saying anyone will fail because from the bottom of my heart i know that none of us will. we'll all do different things and thats cool, thats what makes us, us.
i already cleared it up with ryan that no way do i think that anyones advice could ever snap anyone out of a "funk." thats impossible in my opinion and never was my intention.
