Cain is cunning and very smart. Tutored at home and then self-taught, he solves crimes, investigates supernatural phenomena and magic, sticks his aristocratic nose in all kinds of shady affairs and tries to get to the bottom of them. He may be nothing more than an ordinary human, but with so many resources at his disposal, he finds himself in the right place at the wrong (or right?) time, leading him to personally pursue the matter of a disappearance, a death, a strange occurrence. Chances are, the caper in some way involves poison or will be solved with the use of poisons, as that's his specialty

And one more thing upon canon review, along the same lines of Cain's fail when it comes to expressing what he really feels. He gets kind of embarrassed when it comes down to it, like with his tenderness for Riff and Merry. So cute! It's hard to put on a cool facade and simultaneously shut away his caring side - because that's what it takes for Cain to sublimate his hurt and his weakness as well. So he's a little awkward with genuinely emoting. And that's a big risk too - and a scary one! So better not. He does it subtly, with gifts of flowers and (too many) teddy bears and being a little too creepy protective/possessive of the few people that matter to him.
