As Shadow wanders down these empty streets, investigating the mass carnage, he finds himself uncomfortably reminded of his trip to the future with Rouge, his vision of a world completely ravaged by the fires of Iblis, stoked at Mephiles

[ Holy crap where did that voice even come from? Seriously, Squall. Stop being a ninja, it's going to get you killed in this sort of place. ]

[Oh hey Squall.]

As did you. [A nod up the empty street.] Any idea what might have caused this?

[ The first thing that came screaming into his mind was Ultimecia, but that would probably make him sound crazy. Granted this was a crazy situation, but he'd like to retain at least some semblance of normalcy here. ]

Considering that nearly the entire town has been leveled, I'd guess some sort of powerful weapon. But how in the hell did we manage to survive?

[Perhaps one day they can talk Solaris vs. Ultimecia and compare notes. But now's not the time for Shadow to get into any of Mephiles' history, either.]

No idea. [He points to the pillar of smoke in the distance.] Whatever hit us, that appears to be its epicenter.

HIIIIIGH-WAY TOOOO THE DOOMSDAY ZONE...!

[Peter is picking his way across the streets, heading up town. At a four-way intersection, he sees something small and dark moving across the streets purposefully. He squints, but he can't tell what it is in the dim light. Who or what is that? Is it a drone? No, he's seen... so many dead drones. It seems unlikely that one would be moving about now, relatively unscathed. That means it's either a normal, who could be friend or foe, or it's one of the ringleaders of this town... maybe even a Smith.

Peter ducks behind the still-standing column of a nearby building and watches silently.]

[One of the perks of being a hedgehog? They have excellent hearing. As such, it's safe to say that Shadow isn't alone right now. He stops in his tracks, but doesn't bother turning around.]

Identify yourself.

[Peter is silent. Who is he talking to? Him? He can't be sure. He keeps his head still but his eyes flick left and right, scanning the street from behind cover. There could be someone else on the block, someone he didn't notice. A bead of cold sweat falls from his forehead to the part of his chest exposed by his pajama shirt. What he wouldn't do for some frickin' Spider Sense about now...]

[Now he glares over his shoulder, scanning the area for potential threats.]

I said, "Identify yourself."

[Rainbow Dash is just gonna crash land right in front of him. She's shaking the dust off her wings and coughing hard.]

What the hay happened?! The sky's all screwed up! The ground too! Everything's screwed up!

[In true Shadow fashion, he doesn't help her up or ask if she's all right. Instead, he says:]

Out of the way.

[Yeah, Shadow's a jerkface.]

[An utter wasteland, decimated by nuclear warfare. Chaos, violence, and anarchy running rampant. It was all he wanted; the kind of world that would lead to endless fighting just to survive.]

[Outer Heaven. God, it was beautiful.]

[Liquid had a knife and a small amount of ammunition; being so highly trained, that was all he'd need to thrive in such an environment.]

[So here was Liquid Snake, seeming like the only person that was content to see a destroyed world everywhere he looked.]
