A talk about religion

First of all, we as the body of Christ cannot walk into the house of God anyway we want to, that is simply madness. There must be a STANDARD of Holiness when it comes to our actions and appearel when we are in the sanctuary. Why? Because the House of God is the place where we come to meet with the Lord and worship him in SPIRIT and TRUTH. (...)The ( Read more... )

Hmmm, this interests me quite a bit, so if you'll allow, let me add my own two pence here.
If you are at home and you make a mistake or you fail...Will your parents still love you? I would hope so. If you decide to get a degree that your parents don't agree with, will they still love you? I would hope so. When you enter the world, do your parents step back and hope that all they have taught you will help you make the right decisions and be an upstanding citizen to society? I would hope so.
I agree with you on these points - but, consider this. When you step out on your own and start living your own life, will your parents still be there to offer guidance if asked? I know mine are. Will your parents worry about how you're coping on your own, and still want to be a part of your life? Mine sure do. Will they draw attention to areas in your life that you need to improve in, like if you spend all day in bed, don't keep your home tidy or are neglecting your responsibilities? Better believe mine do! XD ( ... )

(Continued from above)

Going back for a moment to the quoted comments, one of your highlighted lines is where someone has said "They were just happy I was there and letting God have control over my life". I think (and I would hope!) that quite probably what this person meant was influence. There are certainly plenty of similarities, but the key difference is their motivating factor. If someone is controlling you, then the implication is that you are doing what they say because you have no choice in the matter whether you like it or not. God's not into that controlling thing though - rather, it's His influence on people that makes them do or not do certain things, and that's a lot different. Influence is a matter of choice - we're able to decide whether or not we're going to let something or someone affect the way we act ( ... )

...anyway, let me tie this all up as I've prattled on for ages now.
God is a perfect parent, who does not want to control you like a robot, but rather wants you to have the best things in life.
He will not stop you living your life the way you want, but He will tell you when what you're doing upsets Him (and on the reverse of the coin, He'll tell you how delighted He is when He's happy with you).
He wants us to live life according to His ways, but He won't destroy us for slipping up - and He only wants us to live life a certain way because it'll ensure things go well for us.

And one last little extra bit that I just noticed, regarding one of the above comments.

"So what about Holiness? This is the main question that you should ask yourself. Who do you think you are that you can go before Jesus any way you want to. My God Jesus is the reason that you still wake up in the morning and can get out of your bed. He does not ask for much just dress modest and adoren yourself before him."Psa 100:3 "Know that the Lord is God. It is he who ( ... )

My two cents:

I grew up Protestant, and chose to remove myself from being Protestant to being Agnostic. I believe that a higher power exists, but the higher power is not embodied in a physical body, which most religions hold true to.

But, I'll keep it simple.

God created us to be different; you can't say what is His word, because everyone interprets the Scriptures differently, and to say that dressing modestly and doing things that He would approve of is YOUR interpretation of His word, not what IS His word. If people agree with you, great. If not, then that's fine, too. We were born to live our lives as we wish to live them, and in the end, if we lived our lives poorly, then He will forgive you for that because you only live once.

As the saying goes: "God is All Knowing, and All Forgiving."
