I don't think you are wrong. I have not read Shadow Paths, but I think we take our own personal thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and give a story a meaning that is so individual, that only the reader can grasp it. What this author wrote was for his own reason,but what you read and interpreted is a part of your consciousness, and world view. Personally, I think that if you dig hard enough there will be story elements about faith and retribution that, maybee others have peered over, because they are not you
