Woohoo. I'm now equal to people half my age

I'm a fully registered freshman at college. Nice to know that a 17 year old nerd who is still popping his pimples is now my equal. I feel so proud ( Read more... )

There was only one thing I learned from accounting:

"Does a debit equal a credit?"

And I passed with my hard earned D. :D

They offered an intro to accounting class that wasn't required and wouldn't really go towards credit to graduate. I kinda stared at him thinking 'Uh... I know there's special terms and shit, but we're basically talking about an overly complex how to balance a checkbook class. This ain't calculus and shit, I ain't taking a fucking pre-accounting class.'

Edit: Another totally unrelated note. On the way home I stopped by a shopping plaza. I've been at this plaza before but I noticed something I never really noticed before. This plaza has a gun store right next to a liquor store which is also next to a cigarette store. If only a taxidermy shop would open up there it'd be the shopping plaza mecca for rednecks.

Needs a truck stop, too.

Most truck stops I've seen don't separate out the shops. It's just kept as one giant cluttered pile of crap in middle of the attached gas station. So you gotta dig through confederate mudflaps, David Allen Coe tapes, and old 'fuck Dixie Chicks' bumper stickers to get to the booze and guns.

"He just kinda nodded his head and went 'yeah'."

What a moron. You actually can teach appreciation. I think you should've taken appreciation of jazz. There are always elements of things that aren't discerned by the casual viewer/listener. Jazz, even though I don't often like listening to it, I can respect because of the musicianship. There is definitely a difference between enjoying something and appreciating something, and this teacher clearly does not understand that. Sucks for you.

I can see your point, but I think if you don't enjoy something then you aren't going to pay enough attention to it to truly appreciate it. I'm not a fan of jazz. It's ok, but generally I'm just not interested in that form of music. I know there is good jazz and I can understand why someone else may enjoy and appreciate it, I just don't care enough to bother with it myself. So in an appreciation for jazz class I'd be bored and most of the material wouldn't sink in.
