Question for the computer nerds out there

I'm gonna be building a new computer. Most of the components I think I've settled on, but I'm not sure about the processor. On one hand for around $480 I can go with I7-920 and motherboard. On the other hand, I can go the cheaper route of the e8400 which comes in around $290 or so. AMD doesn't seem like a reasonable choice anymore, even with their ( Read more... )

i7 all the way. I shelled out a little bit extra for it and am really glad I did. Mostly because I'm in the same boat you are, only upgrading every 4-5 years. I'm liking it; I can run every Adobe program in the ever-lovin' suite at once.

Go with the i7. Like me, it sounds like you don't upgrade often and the only way I get away with that is going the highest end when I do upgrade and then it lasts.
