Maybe that photo wasn't taken in Iran? This sympathy business is getting to the point where it's just fashionable to do. Sort of like how the keffiyeh was co-opted as a hipster fashion statement. Wouldn't surprise me at all if this photo was staged for similar benefit.
Or this really is from Iran, and maybe -- given the amount of press they're getting over all this -- they figured that they might as well milk it and use one of the dominant world languages on signs.
The image has no description, but it's from an article specifically about protests IN IRAN. So it would be natural to assume the picture is of protests in Iran. Then again, this is the news buisness, I wouldn't be at all surprised they used misleading pictures without explanation.
