The future is a strange thing. We try to plan it out as well as we possibly can, for the inevitable, for the unpredictable, and even for the unthinkable. Without a magnified perspective it is difficult to do even one of those, and with a magnified view it is almost impossible. ... hmm, such thoughtful words. I agree with you that hope is an important thing to have: it can be crushed, but I wouldn't want to let go of it, because what shall a person do when they don't have hope?

And then we are also responsible for the things we do or don't do ourselves.

For the way we influence the future or neglect to.

Yes. Ideally we do all that we can but sometimes we are not as brave as we could be or things get in the way, out of our hands. There are so many factors, but if we handle them as well as we can at the time, this is at the very least the makings of less regret.

Hmm... without a prospect for ever seeing brighter days, if there seems to be no sense in doing anything at all... and then there's a kind of hope that's dark and grim, but it's better than none.

... yes. All of this is true. We've got to keep trying to make things the best we can at any given time.
