So, you guys. I am going to start up a few different classes starting in April (since it's the beginning of the school year in Japan), and one that I'm planning to start is an Asian drama discussion group. Why? orange days and nobuta wo produce sound like really good choices! i think even something like freeter could work (though i dunno if the DVDs for that would be released in time) - could talk about gender expectations and societal pressures, etc.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, Freeter could work, but I was thinking it's a little recent? But it would definitely bring up some interesting points.

I love that icon. XD

Umm I've only seen some of those (the ones about relationships) but you could use them to talk about relationships with friends, bf/gfs, enemies, school issues for ones like Nobuta, let's see there's goals/dreams in buzzer beat,... You can keep it very drama-specific and question the characters' choices and talk about plot, you can look at it as how the writers/actors worked in making a certain scene, and you can take it to a very general level of discussing issues that the drama raises, which might let them relate it more to their own experiences.

I think if you're a good discussion leader you can even get them to talk about Gokusen! You could talk about exams, the different levels of classes and schools, issues of privilege, the role of the teacher, extra-curricular activities, leadership, community-building...lol run with it and see where it takes you!
