So me and Jen went to Atlanta this weekend to see Dredg. They were awesome of course. Gavin kept aplogizing for being sick and sucking and he still sang better than most singers I've heard live, better than most period.
The opening band blew me away. They are called Judgement Day. They're an instrumental band consisting of a celloist a violinist and a drummer. They mix traditional classic music with metal by using distortion and various finger picking and such techniques to get a seriously awesome sound and yet still very melodic and brutal simultaneously. They are completely independant. We bought their ep and full length cds. I would imagine they have a myspace site, check them out by all means. I love finding good new instrumental bands these days it makes for excellent writing music.
The second thing that surprised me was Telescreen. I am an old school Codeseven fan and had heard them before and wasn't very impressed. I think hearing the guys with a new singer at first made me feel wrong. But their live show consists of covering the front of the stage and themselves with a white screen that they project videos on that go with the song. Each song has its own video and everyonce in a while the video is cut and the stage lights are used to illuminate the band behind the screen or the stage lights are used to blend the band and video together. It was rather unique. Not to mention certain nuances of the music reminded me how awesome Codeseven's music is and the vocals were good so I have decided I must give them a second chance.
The highlight of the show was when the violinist and the celloist from Judgement day came out and played several songs with Dredg.
Unfortunately we were too tired to work on nano when we got back to the hotel so now I have some serious making up to do. Well that's it for this post.
