I can't help but be a little impressed by all of the things that I've managed to do with the Xavier family name. It's as if I can actually feel the absolutely futile attempts of generations of ancestors trying to disinherit me.
[ there's a sort of soft static-y background hum to that, not directly projected thoughts or images, but just the faint glimpse of a backlit scrim across which a history of experiences are in motion, weaving and patching themselves into a shifting quilt of the lived-in environment of a telepath and an atheist and a cripple and a mutant and a queer -- not asking for understanding (or asking for anything, really) but just colouring his words in the way that he knows how to ]
