After driving through southern Florida, Hurricane Katrina has grown into an incredible storm. With sustained winds of 175 mph, Katrina is a very powerful Category 5 (the strongest) on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

So much of New Orleans is actually below sea level. I'm afraid this is going to be a "hundred-year" (or possibly even a "thousand-year") storm. At least we have you GOES satellites, to provide advance warning to people can try to get out of the way of such storms!
