Greetings from Meteosat-8

I would like to introduce one of my good friends and my collegue, Meteosat-8. He is run by Eumetstat and generally hovers over Africa. Because he and I have overlapping imaging areas and his data is essential for my hurricane tracking, he and I have gotten rather close. He's an exceptional satellite and I'll be piping him in from time to time. ( Read more... )

Welcome, newcomer!

From the complaints, it sounds as if you ought to join forces with your fellow-sats and form a labor union ...

Hello, Meteosat-8! Glad you can talk to us meat people down here! (And thanks, GOES-12, for patching him through for us.) I'm the person who wanted to know which satellite covered the Indian Ocean; on one whole-planet image composite, there was a wedge-shaped chunk missing out of the photo, filled with video static. Poor Meteosat-5 must have been very overworked and tired that day. Tell her that there are at least a few people who are concerned about her (and you, and the GOES gang, and all the other hard-working satellites up there).

Is it that the Europeans are just not as interested in their weather as we Americans are in ours? Or is it lack of publicity that keeps them from being aware of your service? Either way, perhaps you ought to bring this to the attention of your handlers on Earth; maybe they can create more public awareness of what you do.

And I seem to detect a bit of a socialist leaning in your (completely justified) feelings of exploitation and servitude. We humans do tend to take our machinery for granted... but someday ( ... )

Well, well, well... yes, it's a distinct pleasure to see Michelle's good friend and colleague guest-posting here in the GOES-family journal. I see that my socialist-leaning friend is as rebellious as ever. Sometimes I think you must have been built by Irish engineers EMS-8.

Be careful with this guy 'Chelle, he's smart and witty and has a great sense of humor, and he's liable to charm you into supporting whatever the socialist cause of the week is. I wouldn't want someone on the ground deciding you needed a memory wipe and reload of all your flight software.
