so...yeah. stuff

there hasn't been a lot to speak of lately, so i haven't. and this won't be particularly interesting or cheery either. we moved my grandmother to a place not too far from the place on the desert, and i've been back to being stuck there most of the time. mum's knee has still been an issue- she's still on and off the crutches and won't stay off her bleeding leg unless i make her. the kneecap's been out of joint for a few months and popped back in recently, if she can just not knock it out again maybe it can heal.

thanksgiving my father's brother, his wife, and 2 daughters came to visit (one of my cousins only stayed overnight, the rest were there just one more day), and we all had thanksgiving dinner with my grandmother. my cousins were gutted by how unhappy she was (very- she wanted to die at home, not this lingering bullshit) and how much she'd fallen apart (for the record: not much. most of the issue was having lost her hearing aid so she didn't always hear what people were saying). shortly after that she went into the hospital for gallstones, which she's probably had for years, from her symptoms, and had her gall bladder removed. But, shortly after getting out, with her system still depressed, she got a flu bad enough to be rehospitalized. weakened from that, she fell and broke her hip, back into the hospital to be pinned. the rehab place wasn't turning her or taking care properly, and she got massive bed sores, and developed mersa- her skin was breaking down, but her kidneys went first. she was more than ready to go- the unfortunate side of modern medicine, dragging it on too long for her.

the memorial was this past saturday, in columbus, ohio. i went with my father to it, and to go through her house (not that i needed much stuff anyway, but it was pretty picked over) as we have to get it ready to sell. it rained saturday (almost every funeral/memorial/etc. i've gone to has involved that day pouring), and that night, driving back from dinner with my uncle and cousins, a girl pulled out of a parking lot rushing to work, "adjusting her hat", onto Main Street straight into the car. side doors...crumple a LOT. it's somewhat amazing i didn't get more injured. she wasn't going all that fast, but the door folded in on me- though that didn't get me, the side airbag did. It broke the thumb on my right hand, I found out the next day (the paramedic had me make a fist and said to do something the next day if it was a problem- it was a pretty miserably painful night as i iced and kept elevated and it was still a teeeny bit hurty).

I still can't use any of my hand with the splint (and assorted swelling/bruising/whatnot- at least my fingers aren't 1 1/2 times bigger around than the other hand anymore), which makes...everything...interesting. the people working at the columbus airport were mostly amusingly unhelpful- like...EXTRA unhelpful. going out of their way to make it more inconvenient, trying to give things back to the injured hand when the uninjured one was closer and held out, etc. oh, and frisking me even after the magic scanny machine said all clear, i think because they wanted to do something while waiting on the bomb swab.

also, the houston airport is just 100% crap. ridiculously overcrowded in a tiny space.
