Michael Musto should rot from the inside.

Apr 06, 2007 02:37

I don't know if I hate the entirety of Out Magazine, or if I just hate Michael Musto. Either way, I am basically spitting mad about the new issue with the so-called 'Power 50', the list of the 50 most powerful gay men and women in America. So mad about it I haven't been able to articulate the anger for a good three days ( Read more... )

Wouldn't it be more ironic if he rotted from the OUTside? fettered_cirrus April 6 2007, 22:17:13 UTC
Wait, does anyone actually take Out seriously? I thought it was more of a celebrity glamour magazine, just homosexual-centric.

I'd take this about as seriously as when the tabloid rags start their expose threads on "CELEBRITY EATING DISORDERS", their evidence being photos of Kelly Clarkson *gasp* eating a hotdog. They're trash, but everyone knows they're trash.

Also, didn't know you were a part of the LGBT triangle (quadrangle)... cool to hear that you are.

The joke was that he was rotting from the inside, despite being Out, which is actually more in line with the definition of irony.

And like I said, I don't think anyone takes them seriously, it just made me mad that they knowingly went for controversial choices in order to sell magazines.

And sorry kiddo! I was sure it was common knowledge that I play for both teams. I dunno why that's 'cool' really, it's just something that is.

Controversial choices in order to sell magazines is like a delicious chocolate cake for publishers.

And it's not so much cool that you are, but that you're out about it - I was always under the impression that you kept that kind of stuff to yourself, so to speak. But it's been a while since we've talked... so I could be compeletely off the mark.

fucking shit, ignore that, i accidentally signed using a fandom journal that I share with some people :P

aaaaannyhoo, you're right about me keeping it close, I'm not usually terribly verbal about it, so don't worry, you're on the money there :)

Honey, you're confused. The Intelligencer re. seven out of 4o New York gays refusing to be on the cover was referring to an old New York mag story; the OUT Power 50 has only two semi-closeted people on it. The rest are ALL out and proud... And yeah, Anderson really keeps his personal life to himself, giving covers to, of all magazines, Maxim, dishing dirt on his childhood to Vanity Fair. That's a very selective notion of privacy... What if Anderson was hiding the fact that he was Jewish to protect his career trajectory? Would you support that? And do you think that Frank Barney is known as "that gay guy" in Congress. No, course not. He's good at his job, and by reminding others that he's gay he's telling them NOT to make him the exception. No one is asking Coop to be a spokesperson, just to be a little less dishonest -- only when people of his caliber are out and comfortable about it will we reach the tipping point that will make "being out" as irrelevant as their religion or race should be.

Is this an LA magazine? It seems like an LA magazine

I say that because the idea that your sexual identity is a big part of your identity ties right into the whole showbizzxxzzxz YEAH FAME MONEY idea that what you drive up in determines who you'll be driving home with and how you dress determines who you'll be undressing (oh shit did I just paraphrase Henry Rollins? Did I ever). Trash media publishes trash ( ... )
