i've been eyeball deep in the PC Mac debate for a bit now, and was hoping someone might have a point or perspective that could be useful. everyone keeps saying that for doing music Mac's are way better but no one seems to have a good reason why. from what i've gathered the reason to spend the extra money on a Mac is because it is more immune to ( Read more... )

normally i steer clear of this debate as there are always arguments for both sides, both of which have pro/con cliches that are probably true. I say its up to the individual and his/her needs. but you are one cool dude, so this is how I see it ( ... )

wow. thanx for taking the time to share that. the compatabilty issue is something to consider for sure, though it's a bit of a crap shoot either way....say you're going to take something to a mastering engineer....it's 50/50 as to what he's gonna have (or she) so i'm not sure if i could make a decision based on that ( ... )

Whatever you get, get a laptop. Portable is the way to go. I'd be happy with either pc or mac. PC is good for me right now, because I have all the programs already but, I know I have friends who have the MAC ones too, so it doesn't matter. I just don't have the time for reformatting. PC also makes it easier for me to code, but I don't know how much you do of that. Mac's crash all the time, it's just the way they've promoted it. Don't believe what you hear. Money is the only thing in my way right now. Pufff.

hey Jas, if i go Mac i'm actually thinking that a desktop is best for me, cause the whole computer is in the monitor. i don't watch tv but i love movies so i really want to have a decent sized screen, and then it's really compact and easy to take anywhere i might want to record or whatever. i don't need a comp on an airplane and i don't go to coffee shops by myself so i don't think it's worth it for me to get a laptop.

and i have no idea what you mean when you say you code, lol.......are you working for the CIA???

Imagine carrying that desktop comp while on your bike. Yikes. I guess a laptop would be great for me because I like studying and arting alone.

I'm trying to learn JavaScript, and its quite hard to do so with a MAC. Mac/pc give me a hard time, because their browsers aren't cross-compatible sometimes and since at the moment more people use PC, I HAVE to conform my coding to the most users...as Explorer.

But I think I'd get a MAC if I had the chance. Having both is ideal haha. I haven't watched a movie in a while. What's the last good movie you've seen?

i actually just saw Spinal Tap for the first time, lol....for years anyone who found out i hadn't seen it would stare at me like a dog who'd just been shown a card trick, so i finally rented it. i thought it was hilarious.

i've been digging lots of non-fiction films....Grizzly Man has some absolutely amazing footage of Grizzlies in the wild - the guy's bonkers, but the footage he gets is well worth the watch. and even though it's got the cliche Morgan Freeman narrating i loved watching the footage in March of the Penguins...and No Direction Home, the Bob Dylan doc, is also really good....also, the Secret of Nikola Tesla....jeez, i've been such a nerd lately!!

I also meant to mention that if you're doing primarily audio stuff you should definitely take a closer look into the Audio In/Outs. I don't know much about that stuff, and I'm not sure what the iMacs have, but on my Mac Pro it's either Digital Optical (In/Out) or an 1/8" 2.1 (In/Out)

There's no [5.1] 1/8", so it seems like they kinda want you to go Digital Optical, but the cheapest surround system that supports it is, like, $500, so I'm still rockin' shitty stereo computer speakers for now.

hey dude, thanx for taking the time to help out a stranger....i was just over at Mikey's tonight and i'm sold. he showed me all the programs you helped him install, and that was pretty much the clincher, cause paying $500-$1000 a program is bad news. so in the next couple days i will be thrown into the sexy world of the Mac.

thanx again
