I have no clue how to make one, or how to make sure I fit it correctly or anything.

What kind of kilt?

preferably a utili-style-kilt thing. I just figured something rather generic looking... .but that's probably gonna be hard to make... :-/

have you ever folded a kilt for someone? I did it just about every day for a week at pensic... granted, that was 10 years ago, but I remember how to do it. The hardest part is getting the measurements right. Since you are using plaid, that makes it easier. You get the measurement right and you can use part of the plaid as a target to fold to. once you get it folded, tape it. then run a line of stitches down the length, about 2 or 3 inches from the top (or where the top is planned to be). then cut off the extra fabric. Then just sew some more to make it look good... Add belt loops if you like, etc.
