long focus

I was pleased to see how these two pictures turned out, but the focus is off by just a few feet in the second one, which I like a bit better, and I'm not thrilled with how Lynx looks in the other. I was using my zoom lens and was about 100 feet away. I might try to set this up again and work with the focus a bit more. Thoughts/suggestions/comments/ ( Read more... )

Practice practice practice! What kind of camera do you have? Does it have options for different types of focusing (spot focusing, etc.)? If it does, you could experiment with different types of focusing and sort of keep a log as to which photo was taken with which focusing to see which one works best for you.

I'm still learning a ton about photography so I can't even remember what kind of focusing I use normally on my camera. This is something I really need to spend some time exploring myself.

I have a Canon Rebel XS. I had been taking action shots, using my 70-300mm lens. So I had it set on the "action" pre-setting and didn't even remember that when I snapped these. Oh look, it records the info for the picture:

Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XS
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/500 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 300mm
&
Exposure: 1/400 sec
Aperture: 5.6
Focal Length: 300mm

Here's most of the rest of the album -- https://picasaweb.google.com/100619446956993754435/FenceGame
